An update on the Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference
The PIEP Board of Directors has concluded that an in-person conference in October 2020 will not happen. This decision comes with tremendous disappointment at not being able to gather with colleagues and friends from across the industry, but also with the knowledge that this is the only appropriate choice at this time.
The conference planning committee is working on a virtual event for the original conference dates of October 6-7, 2020. This version of the conference will have some of the same presentations and elements from the in-person event, and some new surprises. This event would be included in the registration fee paid for the in-person conference, or have a separate fee for those who choose not to attend the full in-person conference. If you would like to provide feedback on the structure and timeframe of the virtual conference, please take this brief survey. Your input is important and will be valuable to the planning committee.
The monthly webinar series has been very successful, and that will continue. The August webinar topic was just announced; we would love to see you at that presentation on Misinformation During Crisis Events by Kate Starbird on August 21.
Most importantly, we recognize and applaud your diligent work in these times. As our name says, we are PARTNERS in this field and we thank each and every one of you for your hard work on behalf of our citizens.
Please stay tuned for more information on the conference and virtual information sessions.

An update on the 2020 Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference
As you know, the coronavirus pandemic situation changes daily, and the PIEP Board of Directors continues to monitor the situation very closely. Your health and safety remain top priority in the planning and implementation of this educational conference. The conference venue is located in a county that has just recently entered Phase 2 of the Governor’s mandate for safely reopening businesses and activities.
The board solicited feedback via a survey last month, and results show a preference for gathering in-person rather than a virtual conference. While the postponed conference is currently on the calendar for October 5-7, a decision has not been made about proceeding. Updates will be published in the next few months as we learn more from state and local authorities about safely holding large gatherings such as this conference.
PIEP plans to begin hosting short monthly webinars soon, to gather our community virtually and share more knowledge and experience. The board is actively looking for content; please send an email if you are interested in providing a 20 -30 min session or know a speaker who would like to do so. With any new program comes new sponsorship opportunities; please email us if you are interested in supporting this new opportunity.
Thank you again for your support. We will update everyone on the October conference dates as we learn more about how quickly the reopening process progresses in the state and in Snohomish County, and whether the conference can be conducted safely.

Dear PIEP Partners and conference attendees,
In light of the current COVID-19 situation and the government mandates regarding large gatherings, the PIEP Board of Directors has decided to postpone our upcoming conference at the Lynnwood Convention Center. Your health and safety are our first priority and given the escalation of the coronavirus concerns, we determined the best course of action was to postpone until a later date. We have been able to re-book at the same location for October 5-7, 2020.
All registrations for the conference will be transferred and honored for the revised dates. Anyone who has not yet registered can still register for the October date; we have extended the Early Bird discount. Anyone who is unable to attend because of the date change will receive a refund upon request.
Please continue to monitor the PIEP website as we update the sessions and agenda based on presenter availability. Updates will also be pushed out through the WHOVA conference app, available once you register for the conference.
If you reserved a hotel room at the Lynnwood Embassy Suites for the April dates, you will need to call and either cancel or change those dates to October.
We thank you for your patience during this process. If you have any questions about the revised conference dates, feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Stay safe and healthy,
The PIEP Board of Directors
