Jon Major, Scientist-in-Charge of the USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory will share the latest updates from the active volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest. Updates will include details the Observatory scientists have learned about any recent activity at the volcanoes, findings of new research, updates to volcano monitoring in the area, and an opportunity to ask questions about our volcanoes.
Jon Major is the Scientist-in-Charge, and a research hydrologist, with the U.S. Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, Washington. He received his B.S. from University of Dayton, M.S. from Penn State, and Ph.D. from the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Washington. His research focuses on physical responses to landscape disturbances, particularly in volcanic river systems. He has worked at volcanoes in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, El Salvador, Chile, and the Philippines. He has been working at Mount St. Helens since 1981 and has been with the USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory since 1983.
