  • Burnout is one of the most talked about mental health challenges caused by prolonged stress. But, often strategies for prioritizing personal and professional workloads, as well as supporting your own self-care can feel confusing and it’s unclear where to begin. Holly is joining us today to share a tool she finds extremely helpful to fight burnout, set healthy boundaries, and prioritize mental wellbeing, even in the midst of change and shifting priorities. This tool is a simple chart that can help you reflect, refocus, and identify areas for change today.

Holly Weiss-Racine is a Geologist and Outreach Coordinator at the Cascades Volcano Observatory located in Vancouver, Washington. Holly supports the mission of the USGS Volcano Science Center by fostering and maintaining relationships with local, state and federal partners to prepare for and respond to volcanic unrest. Prior to that, Holly was a NEPA analyst and Geotechnical Section Manager with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). In Fall of 2020, Holly was part of a small group that started an agencywide conversation on mental health. This led to the formal development of the FHWA Mental Health Program in May of 2021, and in January of 2023, the FHWA Mental Health Program was awarded a Secretary’s Team Award by Department of Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg for it’s positive impact within the agency. Holly is not a mental health professional but speaks from a place of lived experience with PTSD and shares tips and tools to help others be successful as we navigate meaningful careers in emergency preparedness.
